Bayside Council Tree Guidelines
Bayside Council regulates trees through the Bayside Development Control Plan 2022 and its Tree Pruning and Removal Guidelines. Most pruning or removal of trees on private land needs Council approval unless an exemption applies.
- Development affecting existing trees may require an Arboricultural Impact Assessment to AS 4970, with Tree Protection Plans, project arborist services and details of nearby trees, including adjoining and street trees.
- A Tree Permit is generally required before pruning or removing a tree on private property.
- Approval is generally not required for trees under 3 metres in height with a trunk diameter of 300 mm or less at 1.4 metres above ground, most fruit trees, or species on the Bayside DCP Appendix 3 Exempt Tree Species List.
- Council requires an AQF Level 5 arborist report for applications involving dead, dying or dangerous trees, and where 10 or more trees are proposed for removal.
