Need an AQF Level 5 Project Arborist to Meet Your Development Consent Conditions?
We work with builders, developers, architects, engineers, Principal Certifiers and project managers at key construction stages, from pre-start tree protection and excavation near retained trees through to final arboricultural certification where required.
If Arbor Express prepared your project's Arboricultural Impact Assessment or Tree Protection Plan, we can continue as your Project Arborist during construction, carrying that project knowledge straight into the build.
What Is a Project Arborist?
A Project Arborist is a consulting arborist responsible for monitoring tree protection throughout the construction phase of a development. Arbor Express provides AQF Level 5 Consulting Arborists to act as Project Arborist, with the specific qualification requirements for any individual project set by its Development Consent.
Many councils include Project Arborist requirements within Development Consent conditions where retained trees may be affected by demolition, excavation or building works. Construction activities affecting those trees generally need to be inspected and supervised by that nominated arborist specifically, rather than left to the builder's discretion.
The Project Arborist works with the project team to ensure approved tree protection measures are implemented, monitored and documented throughout construction. Appointing your Project Arborist early means these measures are in place before works begin, rather than being addressed after an issue has already occurred.
When Is a Project Arborist Required?
Project Arborist services are commonly required where Development Consent conditions require arboricultural supervision, or where demolition, excavation or construction occurs near retained trees. This can apply to new homes, duplexes, townhouses, apartments, commercial and industrial developments, schools, childcare centres and infrastructure projects.
The specific requirements, inspection stages and arborist qualifications depend on the conditions applying to the individual development and council.

From Development Consent to Construction
Project Arborist involvement generally begins before construction, where the Development Consent requires tree protection measures, inspections or arboricultural supervision. We review the approved Arboricultural Impact Assessment, Tree Protection Plan and relevant consent conditions before works commence, then attend the construction-stage hold points those conditions require, from tree protection fencing at demolition through to final sign-off at completion. If Arbor Express prepared your project's earlier arboricultural reports, the same project knowledge carries through into construction.
Missing a hold point can stall a project until an arborist attends and signs off, so we schedule inspections around your construction program to help avoid that. For the full inspection, hold-point and documentation process, see Construction Tree Compliance.
Working With Your Project Team
We regularly work alongside builders, property developers, architects, building designers, structural and civil engineers, landscape architects, town planners, Principal Certifiers and local councils.
Our objective is to provide practical arboricultural advice that protects retained trees while supporting efficient project delivery.
Why Choose Arbor Express?
We've attended numerous projects where construction was delayed because tree protection fencing hadn't been installed correctly, excavation started without the required arboricultural supervision, an approved Tree Protection Plan wasn't followed, consent conditions were overlooked, or construction entered a Tree Protection Zone without approval. Early Project Arborist involvement helps identify these issues before they affect the construction program.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. Project Arborist services are generally required where specified by the Development Consent or where construction has the potential to impact retained trees.
Ideally before construction begins, so tree protection measures can be implemented before demolition, excavation or site establishment.
Inspection frequency is set by your Development Consent conditions rather than a fixed schedule. A straightforward residential project may need only a handful of visits at key construction stages (fencing installation, excavation, footings, final sign-off), while larger commercial or multi-stage developments generally require more frequent monitoring. We can estimate the likely inspection schedule once we've reviewed your consent conditions.
Cost depends on the number of inspections required, site complexity and project duration, so we provide a fixed quote once we understand your Development Consent conditions and construction program, rather than a one-size-fits-all rate.
Yes. We provide priority inspections to help minimise construction delays where urgent arboricultural advice or compliance inspections are required.
Where a project has ecological conditions of consent alongside tree protection requirements, we coordinate with our Project Ecologist service so both are managed by one team.
Send us your Development Consent, approved plans, Arboricultural Impact Assessment, Tree Protection Plan and any relevant landscape or construction documentation. We'll review the arboricultural conditions and identify the required inspection stages.
