Need a Tree Removed in Sydney?

Because these factors vary between councils and trees, the safest first step is a professional assessment rather than guesswork. Arbor Express prepares AQF Level 5, QTRA and TRAQ qualified Tree Removal Reports throughout Sydney for homeowners, strata, businesses, property managers and schools.

Where a protected tree requires council approval, our Consulting Arborists assess the tree, prepare the required arboricultural documentation and explain the applicable approval pathway. Once any necessary approval has been obtained, tree removal can be undertaken. We can assist with coordinating the next stage so the approved work is completed in accordance with the Arborist Report and council conditions.

When Do You Need a Tree Removal Report?

Tree Removal Reports are commonly prepared where a council requires arboricultural evidence for a proposed removal, where an exemption needs to be established, or where the tree's condition needs documenting before a decision is made.

If tree removal forms part of a proposed development, a DA Tree Impact Assessment may be required instead.

  • Council tree removal applications
  • Exemption assessments
  • Dead, declining or structurally compromised trees where council documentation is required
  • Storm-damaged trees where documentation is required
  • Removal associated with property management or other approval processes

Is My Tree Exempt From Council Approval?

Sydney councils have different tree-preservation controls and exemptions, which may relate to species, size, location or tree condition depending on the council.

We can assess the tree against your council's requirements and advise whether a removal application, supporting arborist report or documented exemption pathway is appropriate.

What Does a Tree Removal Report Include?

Our AQF Level 5 Consulting Arborists assess the tree and document the arboricultural evidence relevant to the proposed removal.

Where visual assessment alone cannot determine the extent or significance of a defect, advanced diagnostic tools are available in-house to investigate the tree's structural condition more comprehensively, particularly where there are visible decay or hollows, cracks or splits, failed or falling limbs, unusual movement or structural changes, or suspected root damage.

Advanced Tree Risk Assessment

  • Species and dimensions
  • Health and structural condition
  • Significant defects or damage
  • Tree photographs
  • Relevant site conditions
  • Council exemption criteria, where applicable
  • Reasons supporting retention or removal
  • Clear recommendations
  • Supporting documentation for council submission

Tree Removal Is Not Always the Recommendation

A Tree Removal Report doesn't automatically recommend removal. Depending on the findings, we may recommend retention, pruning, monitoring, further investigation or removal. Where removal is warranted, the report documents the arboricultural reasons supporting that recommendation.

Our Tree Removal Process

  1. 1Consultation: we discuss your tree, situation and any deadlines you're working to.
  2. 2Assessment: site inspection by an AQF Level 5 Consulting Arborist, assessing health, structure and relevant risk factors.
  3. 3Report and approval: where required, your Tree Removal Report documents the findings and supporting evidence for the relevant council application or exemption pathway.
  4. 4Removal: once any necessary approval has been obtained, tree removal can be undertaken.
