Expert Arborist Reports Across Arncliffe, Wolli Creek & Ward 2
Ward 2 contains some of Bayside's strongest higher-density and transport-oriented development. Wolli Creek has undergone substantial apartment development around rail infrastructure, while Mascot combines higher-density residential development, employment land and proximity to Sydney Airport.
Arncliffe and Turrella retain more established residential neighbourhoods but continue to experience redevelopment pressure. Rosebery introduces another mix of established housing, apartments and employment land.
Which Arborist Report Do You Need?
Higher-Density Growth, Transport Corridors & Constrained Sites
Wolli Creek's apartment and mixed-use development creates a different arboricultural environment from traditional residential suburbs. Basements, deep excavation, services and constrained development footprints can make trees on adjoining properties particularly important.
Mascot similarly combines apartment growth with commercial, transport and employment uses. Arncliffe and Turrella contain established residential trees where replacement dwellings, additions and increasing density can place proposed construction close to roots and Tree Protection Zones.

Bayside Council Tree Guidelines in Ward 2
Council's tree preservation and landscape requirements apply throughout Ward 2. Removal or pruning of a tree generally requires Council approval, with specified exemptions such as trees no higher than 3 metres with a trunk diameter of no more than 300 mm at 1.4 metres, most fruit trees, and species on the DCP Appendix 3 Exempt Tree Species List. Council's guidelines identify other circumstances where an application may be considered, such as clearance from structures or a tree that is dying, dead or poses a risk to health or safety, but these still require Council approval rather than being automatic exemptions.
Bayside's development requirements can require detailed arboricultural assessment, root mapping and supporting evidence where construction could affect trees on or adjoining the site, including trees within 5 metres of proposed works.
Replacement planting: Bayside DCP 2022 sets on-site tree replacement ratios according to the proposal: 2:1 for alterations and additions, 3:1 for a new single dwelling or dual occupancy, 5:1 for new medium-density development, and 8:1 for new high-density development. For a standalone tree-removal application the ratio is 2:1, or 1:1 where removal is due to safety or risk to infrastructure. Council can assess alternative offset arrangements where on-site replacement is not appropriate.
Private tree permits: Bayside requires a permit before you prune or remove a tree on private property, unless the tree is no higher than 3 metres with a trunk diameter of no more than 300 mm at 1.4 metres above the ground, is a fruit tree, or is on the DCP Appendix 3 Exempt Tree Species List. An AQF Level 5 arborist report is required for a dying, dead or dangerous tree, or for 10 or more trees. Check current thresholds and exemptions on the Bayside Council tree requirements page.

Yes. Bayside's development requirements expressly recognise root mapping as supporting arboricultural evidence where relevant.
Yes. Tree work associated with development can be assessed through the Development Application, and Council may require an independent arborist's report.
In most cases, yes. Bayside requires a permit to prune or remove most trees on private property. Small trees, fruit trees and species on the DCP Appendix 3 Exempt Tree Species List are exempt, as set out in the Tree Guidelines above. Where removal forms part of a Development Application, it is generally assessed through the DA rather than a separate permit. For standalone private-tree removal, pruning or Tree Permit questions unrelated to development, Bayside Tree Permit Services ({BAYSIDE_PERMIT_URL}) can check the Council pathway first.
