Expert Arborist Reports Across Dapto, West Dapto & Ward 3
Ward 3 contains some of the fastest-changing parts of the Wollongong LGA.
It includes Dapto and the major West Dapto growth area together with southern suburbs around Berkeley, Cringila, Warrawong, Unanderra, Port Kembla, Primbee, Windang and Lake Illawarra. Council's own suburb information links Dapto with Avondale, Brownsville, Cleveland, Dombarton, Horsley and Huntley, while Kembla Grange includes the newer Stream Hill and Wongawilli growth areas. The result is a ward where greenfield subdivision, new roads and housing sit alongside established suburbs, industrial land and lake-side environments.
Which Arborist Report Do You Need?
West Dapto Growth, Established Southern Suburbs & Lake Environments
Dapto, Horsley, Wongawilli and Kembla Grange are central to Wollongong's continuing western growth. Larger development sites can involve tree surveys, vegetation assessment, staged removal and retention, road infrastructure and long-term tree-protection planning.
Unanderra, Berkeley and surrounding established suburbs create a different environment, where mature residential trees interact with redevelopment and existing infrastructure. Port Kembla introduces substantial industrial and employment land. Primbee, Windang and the Lake Illawarra suburbs have a stronger lake-side and coastal influence. This makes Ward 3 one of the most diverse arboricultural development areas in the city.

Wollongong Council Tree Guidelines in Ward 3
The same Wollongong tree-permit framework applies throughout Ward 3, but larger West Dapto projects may also involve biodiversity, riparian, bushfire and broader vegetation-management requirements.
Council permission is generally required for non-exempt trees more than 5 metres high or with a trunk diameter of 30 cm or more measured at ground level.
Tree works associated with proposed development should be addressed through the Development Application.
Properties zoned RU1, RU2 or RU4 may require approval from Local Land Services rather than Council for relevant vegetation work: this should be confirmed for the specific property before relying on it.
Replacement planting: a replacement tree is required for every tree approved for removal through Council's Tree Permit pathway. A number of Ward 3 suburbs are identified by Council as low-canopy areas. Council still requires one replacement tree for each approved removal, but eligible residents in these suburbs may collect two replacement trees through Council's Greenplan Plant Sales: Avondale, Berkeley, Brownsville, Cleveland, Dapto, Dombarton, Horsley, Huntley, Kanahooka, Marshall Mount, Port Kembla, Unanderra, Warrawong and Wongawilli. Check current thresholds and exemptions on the Wollongong Council tree requirements page.

Frequently Asked Questions
They can be. Larger sites may require tree surveys, development-impact assessment, vegetation planning and staged tree protection rather than assessment of a single tree.
Yes. Important retained trees and vegetation can influence road alignments, lot layouts, services and open-space design. Assessing them before the West Dapto subdivision layout is fixed is usually far cheaper than redesigning after lodgement.
Not always. Properties zoned RU1, RU2 and RU4 may require approval from Local Land Services instead: this should be confirmed for your specific property.
Yes. Development-related pruning or removal should be addressed within the Development Application. For standalone private-tree removal, pruning or Tree Permit questions unrelated to development, Wollongong Tree Permit Services can check the Council pathway first.
Yes. Council requires one replacement tree for each approved removal. In identified low-canopy suburbs, eligible residents may collect two replacement trees through Council's Greenplan Plant Sales, but the minimum replacement requirement remains one tree per approved removal.
