Expert Arborist Reports Across Lawson Ward
Lawson Ward includes Council precincts around Mill Hill/Bondi Junction, Bronte Beach and Queens Park, with Charing Cross sitting on the boundary with Waverley Ward. This gives the ward a particularly broad development mix.
Bondi Junction contains major commercial, office and high-density residential development, having experienced major high-density growth following the opening of the Eastern Suburbs railway. Queens Park and Bronte areas have more established residential character and mature streetscape trees.
Which Arborist Report Do You Need?
Bondi Junction Density, Heritage Streets & Established Canopy
Bondi Junction contains Waverley's strongest concentration of high-density development. Basements, underground services and constrained development footprints make street trees and neighbouring trees especially important.
Queens Park and the Charing Cross area contain mature established streets and heritage areas where lower-scale redevelopment can still create significant tree impacts. Bronte Beach precinct areas introduce coastal slopes and a different tree-development environment again.

Waverley Council Tree Guidelines in Lawson Ward
Waverley's current tree-preservation rules apply throughout Lawson Ward. Development sites must identify relevant trees on the site, adjacent properties and public land within four metres of the boundary.
For Significant Trees, heritage trees or prominent trees in urban conservation areas, Council requires an Arboricultural Impact Assessment with the DA.
Replacement planting: approved private-tree removal requires an equivalent or larger mature-canopy replacement tree, minimum 45 L, planted within one month. Where there is insufficient on-site space, Council generally requires a minimum of three off-site trees for each tree removed. Development approvals also require replacement planting, with off-site offset planting where an advanced replacement tree cannot be accommodated on-site. Check current thresholds and exemptions on the Waverley Council tree requirements page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Public trees within four metres of the site boundary must be identified where relevant. Driveway crossings, services and basement excavation near the front boundary can affect a street tree's roots, so it should be assessed alongside trees on the site.
Yes. Deep excavation on constrained Bondi Junction sites can significantly affect the roots of trees on adjoining land. Early assessment lets the basement line or construction method respond before plans are fixed.
Trees 3 metres or more high, or with a canopy spread of 3 metres or more, generally need a Tree Permit before removal unless exempt, or the removal is assessed through a Development Application. For standalone private-tree removal, pruning or Tree Permit questions unrelated to development, Waverley Tree Permit Services can check the Council pathway first.
Yes. Significant and heritage trees can require more detailed arboricultural assessment through the DA process.
Yes. Council recognises root mapping as part of detailed arboricultural assessment where required.
