Expert Arborist Reports Across E Ward
E Ward covers established residential neighbourhoods around Menai, Bangor, Barden Ridge, Illawong and Alfords Point, as well as leafy areas around Bonnet Bay and Woronora. Many properties sit near bushland, waterways or substantial native vegetation.
Development here can involve sloping sites, retaining structures, mature native trees and neighbouring vegetation extending into the development footprint.
Which Arborist Report Do You Need?
Residential development near native vegetation around Menai and Bangor, and construction on sloping or waterway-influenced sites around Illawong and Alfords Point, are among the common reasons property owners across E Ward require an Arborist Report.
Leafy Residential Areas, Slopes & Bushland
Menai and Bangor contain established housing developed within a landscape strongly influenced by native vegetation. Barden Ridge and Alfords Point similarly combine residential development with mature trees and nearby bushland.
Illawong, Bonnet Bay and Woronora add steeper terrain and waterway-influenced sites, where retaining structures, excavation and root-zone impacts can become particularly important.
For these properties, early arboricultural input can identify tree constraints before architectural and engineering designs become fixed.

Sutherland Shire Council Tree Guidelines in E Ward
When a permit is needed: Council's private-tree controls (DCP Chapter 39) apply throughout this ward. Vegetation with a trunk diameter of more than 100 mm, measured 500 mm above natural ground level, generally needs a Tree Permit for pruning or removal unless an exemption applies. Council's arborists inspect each application before deciding it.
Replacement planting: approved removals are replaced with two new indigenous trees on site, or four off site, for every tree removed.
Imminent risk: a tree posing an immediate risk to life or property can be removed without a permit only where Council is satisfied of the risk. An arborist with at least an AQF Level 4 qualification must inspect and photograph the tree, and the owner and arborist must complete and keep the SEPP Exempt Imminent Risk Form for at least two years.
Independent risk reports: where a permit application is supported by a TRAQ risk assessment, Council requires the arborist to be an independent consultant with no affiliation with a tree contracting company.
Development: where vegetation is removed to facilitate development, it is assessed as part of the Development Application.
Because much of E Ward has a strong bushland interface, applicable vegetation and bushfire provisions should also be checked for the individual property rather than assumed from the suburb alone. Check current thresholds and exemptions on the Sutherland Shire Council tree requirements page.

No. Council has different application and exemption pathways, and some private-tree applications rely on independent reporting requirements that sit outside standard development reporting. We can advise which pathway applies to your situation.
Sutherland Shire's Chapter 39 tree controls apply throughout E Ward, with separate exemptions for certain species, minor works and eligible RFS pathways. Bushland and river-influenced properties around Menai and Bangor can also bring vegetation near watercourses into Council's controls, so the individual property and tree should be checked first. See the Sutherland hub for the full explanation. For standalone private-tree removal, pruning or Tree Permit questions unrelated to development, Sutherland Tree Permit Services can check the Council pathway first.
