Expert Arborist Reports Across Wentworthville Ward
Covering suburbs across Wentworthville Ward, including Wentworthville, South Wentworthville, Westmead, Mays Hill, Pendle Hill, Toongabbie and Girraween.
Wentworthville Ward combines established residential neighbourhoods with substantial growth around railway stations, major transport corridors and Westmead. Westmead, Pendle Hill and Toongabbie are shared with the City of Parramatta, so check the correct council for your property.
Wentworthville, Pendle Hill, Toongabbie and Girraween contain a mixture of traditional housing and increasingly intensive residential development. Westmead is influenced by one of Sydney's largest health, medical, research and education precincts, while South Wentworthville remains substantially residential.
These differing development patterns create strong demand for early arboricultural assessment where mature or neighbouring trees interact with redevelopment.
Which Arborist Report Do You Need?
Transport-Oriented Growth, Westmead & Established Housing
Wentworthville and Pendle Hill are experiencing development pressure associated with transport access and town centres. On increasingly constrained sites, neighbouring trees can become significant because their roots or Tree Protection Zones may extend into proposed building, driveway or excavation areas.
Westmead introduces much larger institutional and development projects associated with hospitals, research, education and supporting development. South Wentworthville and Girraween contain a stronger established residential character, where replacement dwellings, additions and secondary development can interact with mature private trees.

Cumberland City Council Tree Guidelines in Wentworthville Ward
Cumberland DCP 2021 now provides the current development-control framework across Cumberland City. Part G contains the city-wide tree-management provisions and applies to development applications throughout the LGA.
Protected trees and development: Part G states that the vegetation provisions apply to woody perennial plants 4 metres or greater in height. Tree retention, removal and protection should therefore be considered early where a proposed building, driveway, basement, retaining wall, services or excavation may affect established trees.
Tree removal reasons: Council's DCP specifically says nuisance from flowers, leaves or fruit, wanting more light or views, shade, a tree being too large, or unsubstantiated fear of failure are not substantive reasons for removal. Where removal is proposed, the arboricultural evidence should address the actual condition, risk, development impact and retention options relevant to the tree.
Replacement planting: where existing trees are approved for removal as part of a development, Cumberland DCP 2021 provides a replacement offset of 1:1 for trees 4–9 metres high and 2:1 for trees greater than 10 metres high. Replacement planting is preferably undertaken on the development property, with alternative locations considered by Council on merit. Check current thresholds and exemptions on the Cumberland Council tree requirements page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Trees and other woody perennial vegetation 4 metres or greater in height fall within Cumberland DCP 2021's vegetation controls, subject to the applicable approval pathway and exemptions. For tree work outside a Development Application, Council's tree management page states that many woody trees over 3.6 metres high need written approval. Check the current Council pathway and any applicable exemptions before removal or major pruning.
An arborist report can be needed where redevelopment, a new dwelling, duplex, extension, driveway, basement, retaining wall or services may affect established trees. This includes trees on adjoining land where their Tree Protection Zones extend into the development site.
Yes. Development around Westmead can involve constrained sites and more intensive building works. Depending on the project, the arboricultural documentation can include an AIA, Tree Protection Plan, root investigation and Project Arborist monitoring.
Yes. Where removal is connected to the development, the AIA can assess the tree's condition, retention value, proposed impacts and available design alternatives and provide the arboricultural basis for Council to assess the proposal.
Yes. Non-destructive root investigation can establish actual root location where a basement, footing, driveway, retaining wall or service is proposed close to a retained tree. That evidence can then inform the design and construction method.
