Expert Arborist Reports Across Regents Park Ward
Covering suburbs across Regents Park Ward, including Lidcombe, Berala, Regents Park, Auburn, Rookwood and Homebush West.
Regents Park Ward combines predominantly low-density residential neighbourhoods with higher-density development around Lidcombe and industrial and employment land toward Parramatta Road.
Lidcombe is the major centre within the ward and continues to experience substantial residential and mixed-use development. Berala and Regents Park retain a stronger established residential character, while Rookwood and the large industrial and employment precincts create a very different land-use pattern. This makes Regents Park Ward one of Cumberland's most varied development environments.
Which Arborist Report Do You Need?
Lidcombe Growth, Established Housing & Employment Land
Lidcombe contains higher-density housing and major redevelopment associated with its town centre, railway station and transport connections. On constrained development sites, mature trees and neighbouring trees can influence basement excavation, building footprints, driveways and services.
Berala and Regents Park contain more traditional residential neighbourhoods where established trees interact with replacement housing and additions. The northern portion of the ward also contains industrial and employment land connected to Parramatta Road, requiring arboricultural assessment on larger commercial sites. Rookwood contributes a distinct landscape character with extensive mature vegetation and heritage significance.

Cumberland City Council Tree Guidelines in Regents Park Ward
Cumberland DCP 2021 now provides the current development-control framework across Cumberland City. Part G contains the city-wide tree-management provisions and applies to development applications throughout the LGA.
Protected trees and development: Part G states that the vegetation provisions apply to woody perennial plants 4 metres or greater in height. Tree retention, removal and protection should therefore be considered early where a proposed building, driveway, basement, retaining wall, services or excavation may affect established trees.
Tree removal reasons: Council's DCP specifically says nuisance from flowers, leaves or fruit, wanting more light or views, shade, a tree being too large, or unsubstantiated fear of failure are not substantive reasons for removal. Where removal is proposed, the arboricultural evidence should address the actual condition, risk, development impact and retention options relevant to the tree.
Replacement planting: where existing trees are approved for removal as part of a development, Cumberland DCP 2021 provides a replacement offset of 1:1 for trees 4–9 metres high and 2:1 for trees greater than 10 metres high. Replacement planting is preferably undertaken on the development property, with alternative locations considered by Council on merit. Check current thresholds and exemptions on the Cumberland Council tree requirements page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Trees and other woody perennial vegetation 4 metres or greater in height fall within Cumberland DCP 2021's vegetation controls, subject to the applicable approval pathway and exemptions. For tree work outside a Development Application, Council's tree management page states that many woody trees over 3.6 metres high need written approval. Check the current Council pathway and any applicable exemptions before removal or major pruning.
An arborist report can be needed where apartments, townhouses, commercial development, basements, driveways, services or other works may affect retained trees. This is particularly important on constrained sites where excavation and building footprints leave limited separation from existing trees.
Yes. Trees do not have to stand inside the property boundary to be relevant. Where roots, canopy or Tree Protection Zones extend into the development site, the AIA should assess the likely impacts and explain how the trees will be protected.
Yes. Larger employment and commercial sites can require Tree Surveys, Arboricultural Impact Assessments, Tree Protection Plans, root investigation and Project Arborist monitoring where development occurs near retained trees.
Yes. Rookwood involves specialised land uses, heritage and site-specific considerations. Arboricultural assessment may form only one part of the required project documentation, so the relevant landowner, heritage and planning requirements should be confirmed for the particular works.
