Expert Arborist Reports Across Camden South Ward
Following Council's 2023 ward boundary redistribution, South Ward now includes Bickley Vale, Cawdor, Camden, Camden South, Elderslie, Ellis Lane, Grasmere, Harrington Park, Kirkham, Narellan and Smeaton Grange.
This gives South Ward a very different arboricultural character from Camden's newer northern growth areas. Camden, Camden South and Elderslie contain older residential landscapes and mature trees. Narellan combines established residential and commercial development. Harrington Park, now part of South Ward, contains established and newer residential development. Smeaton Grange, also now in South Ward, is one of the LGA's major commercial and industrial areas. Grasmere, Ellis Lane, Bickley Vale and Cawdor retain a stronger semi-rural character.
Which Arborist Report Do You Need?
Historic Camden, Mature Canopy & Semi-Rural Properties
Camden's historic township and surrounding established suburbs have mature streetscapes and older private gardens not generally found in newer estates.
Elderslie and Camden South contain established housing where mature trees can become significant constraints during additions, secondary dwellings, pools and redevelopment. Narellan combines older housing with major retail and commercial development. Harrington Park contains a mix of established and continuing residential development. Smeaton Grange introduces larger commercial and industrial sites where development arboriculture can involve car parks, access roads, services and multiple retained trees.
Further west and south, Grasmere, Ellis Lane and Cawdor contain larger properties, scattered mature trees and a distinctly semi-rural landscape.

Camden Council Tree Guidelines in South Ward
Camden's normal protected-tree rules apply throughout South Ward, but heritage or biodiversity constraints can alter the approval pathway for particular properties.
Council notes that heritage areas or land with high biodiversity value may require a Development Application rather than a standard Tree Permit.
Replacement planting: where Council approves private-tree removal, the permit can require up to four replacement trees for every tree removed. The permit specifies the requirements for the replacement tree or trees, including planting size and the mature height to be achieved, with species selection at the property owner's discretion.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Council says vegetation on heritage or high-biodiversity land may require a DA rather than the normal permit pathway.
Yes. Root zones and canopy can influence where additions, garages, pools and driveways can go on Elderslie's established lots. Early assessment identifies the Tree Protection Zones and lets the design respond before lodgement.
No. Arbor Express can prepare reports, tree surveys and protection plans for commercial and industrial sites.
Yes. On larger semi-rural properties, a Tree Survey or Arboricultural Impact Assessment can assess many trees at once and identify which ones need to be worked around before a new dwelling, shed or subdivision is designed.
No. Camden directs owners to the NSW RFS to check property-specific 10/50 eligibility. Where the 10/50 scheme applies, trees within 10 metres of a home may be cleared without approval, but eligibility must be confirmed with the RFS online tool before any work.
Most trees do. A written Tree Permit is generally needed for a tree 3 metres or more high, with a trunk circumference of 300 mm (approximately 100 mm diameter) or more at 1 metre above ground, or with a branch span of 3 metres or more, unless an exemption applies. For standalone private-tree removal or pruning questions unrelated to development, Camden Council's Private Tree Facts page sets out the current application process, lodged via the NSW Planning Portal.
