Hunters Hill Tree Preservation Rules
Most trees in Hunters Hill are protected under the Hunters Hill Consolidated DCP 2013, the Hunters Hill LEP 2012 and the State Environmental Planning Policy (Biodiversity and Conservation) 2021. Council approval is generally required before removing, pruning, damaging or otherwise working on protected vegetation.
- Council approval: generally required for vegetation 4 metres or more in height with a stem diameter of 200 mm or more at 1.4 metres above ground, bushland remnants adjoining Buffalo Creek Reserve or Boronia Park Reserve, vegetation on biodiversity-significant land, heritage-listed trees, or trees on the Hunters Hill Significant Tree Register.
- Applications: a Tree Permit is required for most pruning and tree removal on private land. A DA is required where the tree is heritage listed, a significant tree, on a heritage-listed property, in a Heritage Conservation Area, or subject to a current DA.
- Exemptions: hedge maintenance, dead trees not used as native fauna habitat, deadwood removal to AS 4373, declared noxious weeds and nominated exempt species. Heritage-listed and Significant Register trees remain subject to extra controls.
- Development and tree protection: where development affects retained trees, Council may require an arborist report, Arboricultural Impact Assessment, Tree Protection Plan to AS 4970 and project arborist inspections where required by consent.
