Expert Arborist Reports Across Fairfield & Cabramatta
Fairfield/Cabravale Ward contains some of Fairfield City's most established and intensively developed suburbs.
Representative areas include Fairfield, Fairfield East, Fairfield Heights, Cabramatta, Canley Vale, Canley Heights, Carramar, Lansvale, Old Guildford, Villawood and Yennora. These suburbs combine older residential properties with town-centre development, dual occupancies, secondary dwellings, apartment development and commercial sites. Trees are often located on relatively constrained properties where proposed buildings, driveways or services can come close to mature root systems.
Which Arborist Report Do You Need?
Established Housing, Town Centres & Constrained Development
Cabramatta and Fairfield contain major commercial and transport centres surrounded by established residential neighbourhoods.
Redevelopment can involve apartment construction, commercial projects, dual occupancies, secondary dwellings, replacement housing, driveways and parking, stormwater works, and excavation close to existing trees.
Canley Vale and Canley Heights contain mature suburban properties where neighbouring trees can become important as development intensity increases. Lansvale and Carramar introduce different creek and river-influenced environments.

Fairfield Council Tree Guidelines in Fairfield/Cabravale Ward
Fairfield's broad Tree Work Permit framework applies throughout the ward. Do not assume that a tree can be removed simply because it is under a particular height or trunk diameter: unless an applicable exemption exists, Council approval should be checked before pruning or removal.
Development applications proposing tree removal can require supporting Arborist Reports.
Replacement planting: one replacement tree of the applicant's choice (not an exempt species) is planted for every approved removal, with the specific requirement confirmed against the Tree Work Permit or Development Consent conditions.
Emergency Trees
Fairfield's AQF Level 5 emergency-tree pathway applies throughout Fairfield/Cabravale Ward. Where an arborist identifies a likelihood of failure and the risk cannot reasonably be isolated, Council can consider an emergency application supported by written and photographic evidence.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Council generally approves removal where a tree is dead or dying, a safety hazard, or has caused serious structural damage with no reasonable alternative. An arborist report documents the tree's condition, defects, risk and any development impacts, giving Council the evidence it needs to assess the application.
Not necessarily. Council's Exempt Trees List includes a size-based exemption for small trees (under 4 metres high, with a branch span under 3 metres and a trunk diameter under 75 mm at 1 metre above ground), but it does not apply to trees within the Cumberland Plain Critically Endangered Ecological Community. It sits alongside the undesirable species list and other specific exemptions, so the tree and property should be checked before any work.
Yes. Roots, canopy and Tree Protection Zones can extend across property boundaries. On the smaller lots around Cabramatta and Canley Vale, the Arboricultural Impact Assessment should show how a neighbouring tree will be protected, or what design changes are needed to retain it.
Yes. Physical root investigation can help establish whether significant roots occur within a proposed building or excavation area.
Yes. A replacement tree is generally required for each approved removal, subject to the specific permit or consent conditions.
Almost always, unless a specific exemption applies. Council's Exempt Trees List exempts Council's undesirable species (identified in writing by a qualified arborist or horticulturalist), trees under 4 metres high with a branch span under 3 metres and a trunk diameter under 75 mm at 1 metre above ground (except within the Cumberland Plain Critically Endangered Ecological Community), and a few other specific circumstances. Everything else needs a Tree Work Permit. Council generally approves removal where a tree is dead, diseased and not expected to survive, a safety hazard, or has caused extensive structural damage with no repair alternative. For standalone private-tree removal or pruning questions unrelated to development, Fairfield City Council's Tree Removal & Pruning page sets out the current application process.
